Michelle Maynard
Michelle Maynard is a contemporary Tasmanian Aboriginal designer, artist, cultural practitioner and facilitator of community connective experiences.
Working extensively in administrative positions, Michelle retrained with Diploma’s in Fashion Design & Textiles, and Project Management Practice in the last ten years.
Michelle is passionate about advocating for her people and country through art and design and is powerfully motivated from the core of her family and their history on the Cape Barren Island Reserve.
Currently undertaking her apprenticeship for Practitioner Certification in Grof Transpersonal Training, Michelle is inspired by the potential for personal and community healing within art and cultural practice. This specialised Transpersonal Psychology training provides a framework of powerful tools that she integrates into all aspects of her personal, community and creative life.
Over the past three years, Michelle has completed works in graphic design, multi media art installations, textile set design and design concept development in projects with Hobart City Council, Flinders Island Business Inc., Liminal Spaces, Ten Days on the Island, Walantanalinany Palingina, ArtPlay for Yirramboi Festival and Terrapin Puppet Theatre.
Current projects include the Aboriginal Cultural Landscape Commission for Guilford Young College, the Risdon Prison – Southern Remand Centre public art commission and Hobart City Council commission for the Information Centre relocation.
Michelle’s love lies with fashion, textiles and design and she is excited about the opportunities for Tasmanian Aboriginal artists and designers to enter the First Nations Fashion Design movement.
